After the pool matches of this evening in The Hague the drawing lots for the the follow-up of the men’s tournament took place. Again some exciting matches will follow.
Heidrich/Gerson (SUI) vs. Nicolai/Lupo (ITA) – Rotterdam, 16.00 hrs.
Nicolai/Lupo, nominees for the title, lost two out of three pool matches against all expectations. Based on point rates the still became number three in the pool and thus they may play in the intermediate round. Also the Swiss team won only one pool match: the match againste the Dutch team Boehlé/Van de Velde. Three out of four teams in this pool had won one match, but on point rates Heidrich/Gerson reached the second place.
Perusic/Schweiner (CZE) vs. Boehlé/van de Velde (NED) – Rotterdam, 17.00 hrs
Boehlé/Van de Velde started very strong in the tournament with advantage against Italy. Also in the second and third match this team showed good play, but it was not able to get the advantage. However, the only advantage was enough to get a place in the intermediate round, where they will meet the Czech team. This team started the First match rather moderate, but the two matches thereafter were won. This led to the second place in the pool for this team.
Varenhorst/Bouter (NED) vs. Bergmann/Harms, Y. (GER) – Apeldoorn, 18.00 hrs
For Varenhorst/Bouter the first two matches went on perfect: without many problems they gained two advantages. This afternoon they fought for the first place in the pool, but in this match they were just a little too short, the result was 2-0 for Spain (21-15, 23,21). This means that they will meet Bergmann/Harms in the intermediate round tomorrow. The latter team won one match, due to which they reached the third place in their pool.
Koekelkoren/van Walle (BEL) vs. Berntsen/Mol, H. (NOR) – Apeldoorn, 17.00 uur
Koekelkoren/Van Walle won twice with broad numbers in the pool fase, but in the match yesterday against Brouwer/Meeuwsen they encountered more trouble: they failed to put pressure on the Dutch team. They lost this match and therefore have reached the second place in their pool. Tomorrow the play the intermediate round against the Norwegian team, that so far only has won on match.
