The Suisse team Hüberli/Betschart made it to the Final of the European Championship Beach Volleyball. They won their semi-final against the Spanish team Liliana/Elsa with 2-1 (14-21, 23-21, 15-13).

The Suisse team, placed fitfth this tournament, started pretty good. But the Spanish team Liliana/Elsa closed the gap very fast. Hüberli had trouble with Elsa’s serve. With an ace and a lucky serve (touched the net) the Spanish team took an advantage of four points. Hüberli and Betschart didn’t come closer anymore. The Spanish scored their points with short shots over the net and smart played attacks via the opponents hands. The experienced Spanish team took the first set: 21-14. In the second set, both teams fought for every point. At least with the serve, the teams put pressure on each other. Hüberli had a few good serves in a row. Especially Liliana had trouble with their passes. The Suisse took a big advantage: 14-8,but then Elsa came on service again. She managed to bring back her team to 15-15. Liliana/Elsa had two chances to win the match, but Hüberli/Betschart won the set: 23-21.

A third set should be played to decide who will play the final tonight. Earlier this season the Suisse team won the bronze medal at the WorldTour competition in The Hague, and now they reached the final of the European Championships. They won the third set with a score of 15-13.

Now they will face Hermannova/Slukova or home team Keizer/Meppelink in the final tonight at 19:45. They do not mind which team they will play against. “But it should be really nice to play against the Dutch with this crowd in the stadium”.
